Spring Lunar Eclipse

Mary Therese / 1 Comment

As Spring was just beginning to show itself this year, I saw the ending of a total eclipse of the moon here in northern California, as I was driving on an early Saturday morning.  I went by a familiar spot near the river that I have visited often and saw this image of the moon.  It was not too far up from the horizon in the early morning sky.  Nature and life are always full of surprises, strength and beauty.  I was reminded of a Walt Whitman poem I read long ago.

"Song of the Open Road," adapted from Walt Whitman

"You road, I enter upon and look around

I believe you are not only what can be seen

For much unseen is also here."

"All of you, wherever you are, come travel with me

Traveling with me you will find what never tires

The earth never tires

The earth is rude, silent, incomprehensible at first

Nature is rude, silent, incomprehensible at first

Be not discouraged, keep on, there are

   divine things well enveloped

I swear to you, there are divine things more beautiful than words can tell."

Great poem! Thanks for reminding me about it. I like Walt Whitman's poetry so much.
